How to Animate DNA and Cells for a Science Video

Updated October 30, 20263 min read

Where do you get medical animations for a video?

Instead of licensing stock, edit a preset: a DNA helix, an ECG monitor, a beating heart, dividing cells or a lab flask. You set the colors, speed and labels, and export MP4 or transparent WebM with a commercial license included.

Health and science content needs visuals that are clear rather than dramatic. These presets animate DNA, vitals, cells, molecules and lab equipment in clean line work you can recolor.

Five science & medical presets to start from

Hover any card to play it. Opening one loads it in the editor with every control unlocked.

  • DNA Double Helix

Two glowing strands twist around each other with base pairs in a seamless faux-3D loop for biotech and genetics.

  • ECG Heart Monitor

A glowing heartbeat trace sweeps across a monitor grid with a live BPM readout and a pulsing heart on every beat.

  • Atom Orbit

Electrons with glowing trails circle a shimmering nucleus on tilted orbits, a classic science symbol in a perfect loop.

  • Molecule Spin

A ball-and-stick molecule turns in 3D with depth and perspective, ideal for chemistry, pharma and research visuals.

  • Cell Division

A translucent cell stretches, pinches and splits into two daughter cells among drifting particles. Mitosis made beautiful.

Step by step

  1. Start from the subject

DNA Double Helix fits genetics and biotech topics, Cell Division fits a biology lesson, and ECG Heart Monitor fits anything about the heart. For a clinic or a health brand, Vitals Dashboard and Medical Cross Reveal carry numbers and a name rather than a structure.

  2. Edit what the preset exposes

DNA Double Helix takes Primary, Secondary, Accent, Thickness, Scale, Position and Speed. Vitals Dashboard adds Labels, Values and Units, so you can change the readings. Medical Cross Reveal adds Title and Subtitle for the clinic name. Periodic Element Tile uses Label for the symbol and Title for the name.

  3. Slow it for narration

Defaults run from 5 to 15 seconds, most up to 60. Lower Speed when someone is explaining the structure, as the helix starts at just 0.2. On Breathing Lungs, Values set the seconds for inhale, hold and exhale. Use Position to leave room for a presenter or a label.

  4. Export for how it is used

All 20 presets start on a solid dark fill, so MP4 is ready when the graphic owns the frame. If it must sit beside a presenter, set Background to Transparent and export WebM with alpha for CapCut or Resolve, or a PNG sequence for Premiere Pro and After Effects.

  5. Build the explainer around it

In DaVinci Resolve, drag the MP4 to the timeline and cut it in on the sentence that names the subject. For a transparent version, drag the frames folder into the media pool and set the rate in Clip Attributes. Add your own text labels above it as your script requires.

Where it is used

  • Biology lessons

A teacher's revision video on mitosis with Cell Division on screen while the stages are named, cut back to the presenter for each definition and exam tip.

  • Clinic and health adverts

A local clinic's opening or closing title with Medical Cross Reveal carrying its own name and tagline, in place of a generic stock shot of a stethoscope.

  • Research and biotech talks

A conference or investor presentation using Receptor Binding or Molecule Spin behind a speaker to illustrate a mechanism, clearly as an illustration and not as measured data.

Three tips that make it look intentional

  • Keep clinical palettes calm: one accent on a neutral base.
  • Slow the loop down for narration and speed it up for a montage.
  • Label with your own terms so the graphic matches the script.

Three things people get wrong

  • Spinning a helix or a molecule fast enough that nobody can follow the structure.
  • Labelling everything on screen at once instead of in the order you talk about it.
  • Choosing a palette that implies a result, like red for a normal reading.

Frequently asked

Are these accurate enough for teaching?

They are illustrative rather than diagnostic, which suits explainers, lessons and marketing.

Can the vitals show my own numbers?

Yes, readouts and labels are editable on the monitor and dashboard presets.

Use a ticker preset, enter your headlines, set the scroll speed and colors, and export. A breaking news banner and a headline bar cover the rest of a bulletin look, and transparent exports let them sit over your own footage or a studio plate.
