   Match the preset to the job

   Torn Paper Reveal is a 2 second transition between shots. Torn Paper Lower Third introduces a speaker on two ripped strips. Envelope Letter Reveal carries one message as a small scene of its own, which suits invitations and announcements. The other presets in this set of 55 add tape labels, stickers, folds and pop-ups.

   Set the paper and the words

   Torn Paper Lower Third takes Title, Subtitle and Rotation, while Envelope Letter Reveal takes Text. Torn Paper Reveal has no words, and its sheets use the Primary, Secondary and Accent colors. Intensity sets how far the stop-motion jitter wanders, and Variation gives a different seeded result without touching your text.

   Keep the timing short and stepped

   Defaults run from 2 to 10 seconds, with transitions at the short end. Place Torn Paper Reveal so its sheets cover the frame at your cut point. Position moves the lower third, and the strips size themselves to the text, so a long name needs no manual fitting. At 9:16, keep it above the bottom of the frame.

   Decide between full frame and alpha

   Twenty presets start transparent, including the tears, lower thirds and tape labels, and 35 start on a solid color. Full-frame scenes export cleanly as MP4. Anything over footage needs alpha, which MP4 lacks, so choose a PNG sequence for Premiere Pro or After Effects, or WebM with alpha for CapCut.

   Line the tear up with the cut

   In After Effects, choose File, Import, File, select the first frame and tick PNG Sequence, then place the tear above the join between two shots. In CapCut, import the WebM, put it on an overlay track and slide it until the paper fully covers the cut. Envelope Letter Reveal as an MP4 sits on the main track.

Three tips that make it look intentional

• Keep the motion slightly stepped rather than perfectly smooth.
• Warm off-white tones read as paper; pure white reads as UI.
• Use the tape label for a handwritten aside, not for the main title.

Three things people get wrong

• Moving the pieces smoothly. Stop-motion charm comes from stepped timing, not from easing.
• Using a flat drop shadow, which removes the sense of layers lifted off the page.
• Choosing colors with no paper texture in them, which turns cut-outs into flat shapes.
