   Choose how much attention it should take

   Gradient Flow is the quiet option, with soft color fields that sit behind talking heads and titles. Bokeh Float adds warm out-of-focus lights for weddings or events. Hexagon Pulse has a technical look, with light sweeping through a honeycomb, and suits product launches and tech explainers.

   Set the palette and the amount of detail

   Set Primary, Secondary and Accent, keeping them close in brightness if text will sit on top. Density controls how much appears on screen, and Variation changes the arrangement. Hexagon Pulse also has Speed, as do most presets in this category, but Gradient Flow and Bokeh Float do not.

   Export one loop, not the whole scene

   Defaults run from 3 to 10 seconds, and clips can go up to 60. The motion is built on whole cycles, so a short clip can be repeated on the timeline. Choose the aspect ratio that matches your project, because the background is drawn to fit that frame rather than cropped.

   Use MP4

   A background fills the whole frame and has nothing to show through it, so it does not need alpha. MP4 opens directly in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Resolve, CapCut and most other editors, which makes it the simplest choice here. Set a solid Background color first if any part shows through.

   Repeat it under your scene

   In Premiere Pro, place the MP4 on the bottom track, then copy and paste it end to end until it runs the length of the scene. Put your titles or a keyed presenter on the tracks above, and lower its opacity if the text still competes.

Three tips that make it look intentional

• Lower the contrast of the background so foreground text stays legible.
• Slower is better: motion behind text should be felt, not watched.
• Loop a short export rather than rendering minutes of video.

Three things people get wrong

• Choosing motion that competes with the foreground. A background is judged by what you do not notice about it.
• Exporting at the length of the scene rather than the length of the loop, which makes a far bigger file for no gain.
• Setting saturation high enough that anything placed on top has to fight for contrast.
